There are a lot of podcasts on the subject of product design and leadership.

And honestly, I’ve tried listening to most of them.

But the one I keep coming back to, over and over again, is Masters of Scale by Reid Hoffman.

If you are new to Product Design, here’s why I would recommend blocking 1 hour per week to listen and study every episode:

Reason #1: You will learn about the business of developing new products and services.

As a designer it’s very easy to see things through the lens of desirability. This podcast will open your mind to entrepreneurship, hone your sensitivity to business viability, and give you perspective on how to be a better partner with product and engineering.

Reason #2: You will be inspired by great product intuition and risk-taking.

Some of Reid’s guests talk about going above and beyond for customers, some about taking a risk on a great idea when everyone thought they were crazy, about turning around a startup when their funding was about to run out. But you can learn and be inspired by all of them.

Reason #3: You will get exposure to analogous experiences and industries.

Many times when we’re solving a product or service problem, there is another industry or product outside of our current domain that can unleash breakthrough thinking. This podcast will expand your aperture and prompt you to connect more dots.

As a beginner, I promise — this is one of the most helpful resources on the Internet you can sink your teeth into to learn about how product and services come to market, and the leadership it takes to make them a reality.
